Tucked away on the Georgia–Florida border, just about 30 minutes from Tallahassee, Thomasville is one of those small Southern towns that feels like it was made for wandering, browsing, and lingering over good food. Our draw to this Place was simple: we are longtime fans of The Bookshelf and their podcast From the Front Porch, so a literary-inspired road trip felt like the perfect excuse for a long weekend getaway.
Where We Stayed
We checked into the Courtyard by Marriott Thomasville Downtown, and it turned out to be just right. It was comfortable, convenient, and close enough to walk to shops and restaurants. If you are looking for more personality, Thomasville also has plenty of Airbnb stays in historic homes that bring even more local charm.

Jonah’s Fish & Grits: A lively spot with seafood that tastes like it came straight from the coast.
Sweet Grass Dairy Cheese Shop: Do not miss their “Taste of Thomasville” board with locally made cheeses, preserves, and other treats.
Sweet Cacao: Beautiful handmade truffles that are almost too pretty to eat and perfect for snacking on the drive home.

Why We’ll Be Back
Thomasville may be small, but it has a way of slowing you down in the best way. You can sip wine and snack on cheese, browse racks of clothing, or pile up your arms with new books and never feel rushed. For us, it was exactly what we were hoping for: a weekend filled with good food, favorite shops, and stories we carried home right alongside our new reads.
