This week in our According to The Kids series: Vermont! Our stop in Vermont gave us cool mornings, scenic runs, and lots of ice cream. After city energy in Boston and slow island days on Martha’s Vineyard, Vermont offered a cozy middle ground—quiet, kid-friendly, and full of small-town charm.
Here’s what stood out most to each of us, according to the kids (and a few thoughts from Mom and Dad too).
Sam’s Favorites: Ben & Jerry’s and Movie Night
A visit to Vermont isn’t complete without a stop at the Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Waterbury. Sam loved the ice cream samples, the funky gift shop, and the behind-the-scenes look at how the magic is made. His second favorite moment? Seeing Lilo & Stitch together as a family on a cozy movie night. (Vermont weather pairs well with pajamas and popcorn.)
Paige’s Pick: Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks
Paige was all in on the maple syrup experience. At Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks, she learned how sap becomes syrup, sampled the goods, and stocked up on maple candies and souvenirs. The sugarhouse, the trails, and the tasting room were a hit.
Andrew’s Favorite: Running on the Recreation Trail
Andrew enjoyed the wide-open feel of Vermont’s Recreation Trails and took advantage of a cool morning to go for a jog. These converted rail trails make it easy to take in the landscape without worrying about traffic. The crisp mountain air made for a memorable adventure.
Mom and Dad’s Favorites: Piecasso and Trail Time
We grabbed a casual dinner at Piecasso Pizzeria & Lounge in Stowe—fun atmosphere, great crust, and the kind of relaxed vibe that makes it perfect for families. The recreation trails were a shared highlight too, offering a scenic way to get outside and stay active without needing a strict itinerary.
P.S. We also recommend visiting the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort! We loved the von Trapp Brewing Bierhall.
If You’re Planning a Trip to Vermont
Vermont offers a little bit of everything—local flavors, outdoor adventure, and quiet spots to reconnect. Whether you’re biking, hiking, or simply slowing down, there’s something grounding about the Green Mountain State. Fall is especially popular, but we found plenty to love in every season.

Final Thoughts
Vermont gave us crisp mornings, maple treats, and memories that felt a little slower and sweeter. The kids found their own kind of fun in movie nights, trail runs, and syrup tastings, while we appreciated the space to just be. According to the kids, this was a trip that felt like a warm hug with a scoop of ice cream on top.
The real question is, how many pints tall are you??
