I am going to the Spa...the BEER SPA

beer spa room

Going to the spa has never been on the top of my to do list.  Seventeen years ago on my honeymoon, I did take advantage of the free couple’s message that we received for being on our honeymoon in Jamaica.  However, after walking out of there feeling like I was the one that had been taken advantage of, I said never again!  Yet, somehow, Mary Ila convinced me once again to partake in a couples massage with her during a fortieth birthday trip this past February.   Seventeen years after my first visit to the spa, I once again walked out saying the spa is just not for me!!!

Pivovar in Waco, Tx

However, that all changed during our visit to Waco, Texas this past Summer.  We always enjoy finding new places to eat, and when you find a place that brews their own beer, then that is usually a bonus for me.  While in Waco, we stumbled across Pivovar.  Pivovar is a brewery, hotel, spa, restaurant, bar, beergarden, and events venue that offers an authentic and unique Czech environment.

The Brewery at Pivovar

As we sat in the restaurant sampling beer and wine and waiting for our food, I began to search their website for all the services they had to offer.  And that is when I saw the first menu item at the Pivovar Spa.  I looked at Mary Ila and said, “I want to visit the spa while we are in town.”  You can imagine the look of shock and awe that she gave me.  Her reaction quickly went from puzzled and thinking I was joking to seeing that I was serious at which point she begin asking if I was feeling ok.  Which she then quickly realized that I was when I pointed to the menu on my phone and said I wanted the 1-hour Beer Spa experience.

As you can see on their website, the Beer Spa is a unique experience that consists of soaking in a warm bubbly bath of an herbal beer mixture of hops, brewer’s yeast, and malted barley.  You can pair your experience with a Pivovar Beer flight, wine flight, or a cheese board from the restaurant.  It even says that drinking beer during the spa experience will promote mental relaxation!  You can’t argue with that, so during the booking process I decided to order the beer flight and an additional  pour of their Light Lager that I enjoyed so much in the restaurant.

 The Beer Spa Experience

The experience consisted of walking into a private hotel room that had been converted into a spa like room.  The room had two large copper tubs (No, you aren’t in the room with anyone else unless you book the couple’s spa experience), a shower, and restroom.   As I walked in, they began to draw the bath and pour the herbal mixture into the tub.  The beer that I ordered was sitting next to the tub and they explained a few of the benefits of soaking in the mixture.  They also explained, that I was welcome to shower once the experience was over but was encouraged not to as immediately washing off could prevent you from realizing the full benefits.  As they left the room, I turned some music on the Alexa that was in the room and climbed into the tub to begin my experience.

Beer Spa Beer Flight

The Beer Flight consisted of five different pours.  The Pivovar Dark Lager, Vienna Lager, Premium Lager, Light Lager, and the Session Beer.

Benefits

As I sipped on the first beer of my flight, I was curious about the said benefits of this experience.  According to their website, the benefits include:

  • Releases muscle tension and soothes arthritis symptoms
  • Stress reduction
  • Flushes toxins from the body
  • Smooths wrinkles
  • Hydrates skin and cleanses pores
  • Hops has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties
  • Supports digestion and metabolism
  • Improves blood circulation
  • Calms irritated skin

I will say, after my hour in the tub, my muscles did feel relaxed, nothing was aching, and I can’t really say I was stressed about a thing!  Now, I don’t know if that was due to the herbal mixture of beer ingredients that I soaked in for an hour, or a result of beer that I consumed while doing so.  But, I do know for certain that when you put the word Beer in front of Spa that I am huge fan!!!
