For our kitchen, we knew we wanted to mix old and new elements to create a distinct look. One of the ways we brought in the old was in our pantry doors.
We love finding off the beaten path places. Through recommendations from friends, we found two great places to source old elements at each end of Alabama.
The first is Charles Phillips Antiques in Theodore just outside of Mobile. Eight warehouses make for fun browsing underneath the live oaks. We found the doors for our pantry here while the kids enjoyed playing hide and seek throughout the property.
Make sure to ask for the guy who can spruce up the doors for you and seal them. His touch gives them a clean look while maintaining the old. Their hours vary from standard retail hours so be sure to check to see when they are open before you make the trip.
We also love the metal planters we found as well as a wooden basin to hold seasonal decor. These were both a bargain here compared to similar items at retail stores.
At the other end of the state, Preservation Company in Huntsville offers some of the same types of pieces but with more of an urban warehouse vibe.
Located in the Lincoln Mill district of town, we found the knobs and backplates for our pantry doors here along with some cool locally sourced gifts and cards.
The staff here was super helpful in getting the knobs done so that they would fit effortlessly on the antique doors.
We also loved Holtz Leather Co. next door and hated that we missed open hours for the French bakery that is also housed in the restored space.
If you are looking for unique finds and skilled craftsmen, both Charles Phillips and Preservation Company are a must stop and shop in Alabama.
