Greenwood House Update: From Vintage Bones to Modern Beauty

Home » Greenwood House Update: From Vintage Bones to Modern Beauty

When we first walked into Greenwood House, we saw a 1960s home that hadn’t been touched in decades—original floors, cabinets, appliances, and all. It had great bones and vintage charm, but it needed light, love, and a major layout rethink. This Greenwood house renovation update is a summary of where we started to where we are now. We’re excited to share how far we’ve come on this renovation journey—and what’s still ahead.

Kitchen: Light, Bright, and Finally Open

The kitchen is one of the most transformative projects in progress. As shared in our Design Series: The Light and Bright Kitchen, we’ve opened the wall between the kitchen and living area to allow for better flow and, more importantly, natural light. The original kitchen was dark—thanks to a rear addition that blocked the window—and cramped by modern standards.

Now, the space is opened up to the front room (and windows!) and will feature custom shaker-style cabinets by Jon Marc Cabinets, painted in Sherwin Williams High Sierra. The walls are getting a coat of Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee to keep the vibe cozy but bright. The new island (topped with a stunning granite slab) will seat four and house a microwave drawer, offering form and function in equal measure. Pendant lighting above the island adds warmth and character, tying the open-concept design together.

Bathrooms + Bonus Room: From Outdated to Spa-Inspired

In our bathroom design update, we shared the plan for bold tile and white oak vanities—and we’re bringing it to life. The primary suite now features a freestanding soaker tub and a tiled walk-in shower. The hallway bath gets an upgraded vanity and fresh fixtures.

One of the biggest changes? Converting a sunken bonus room into a luxurious primary suite. We’ve raised the floors, reconfigured the layout, and carved out space for a powder room—making this an entirely new wing of the house. How’s that for a house renovation update?

Exterior: Major Curb Appeal Boost

It’s not just the inside getting all the attention. Greenwood House now sports a new roof, fresh exterior paint, and new front doors that completely transform the home’s entrance. We’ve also cleaned up and refreshed the landscaping to give the property the welcoming, polished look it deserves.

SPOILER: Drew is working on a special blog about how and why these exterior updates matter in home renovations, especially when you plan to sell a home to a new family. Stay tuned for this one!

What’s Next

As we move into the final phase of the project, we’ll be adding finishing touches—lighting, furniture, and thoughtful decor that bridges the home’s 1960s roots with today’s design sensibilities. Greenwood House is becoming what we always hoped: a space that respects its past while embracing modern life.

We’ll be sharing more house renovation updates with before-and-after photos soon. Until then, catch up on past updates:
