The House That Love Rebuilt

A Breathtaking Revival of Craftsmanship, Memories & Modern Elegance

newly remodeled home

Some homes just have a story to tell. And Brent and Ashley Collins’ newly remodeled home? It practically sings. After more than three years of planning, restoring, and reimagining, they’re finally living in it full-time—surrounded by history, modern touches, and a whole lot of heart.

The Beams That Hold It All Together

Let’s talk about the real stars of this home: the massive, hand-selected wood beams sourced from North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. These aren’t just accents or decorative touches—they form the entire structure of the house. These beams are big, bold, and absolutely breathtaking, giving the home a sense of warmth, strength, and permanence.

Getting them in place? Now that was a sight to see. (And don’t worry, we’ve got the video to prove it.) Imagine cranes lifting these giant wooden beauties into place, piece by piece, like a perfectly orchestrated puzzle. It wasn’t just construction—it was an event.

The beauty of these beams goes beyond their size. They tell a story, carrying the natural grain, knots, and textures that make them one-of-a-kind. They frame soaring ceilings, define the living spaces, and give the entire home a sense of soul that modern materials just can’t replicate.

Honoring the Past

Brent and Ashley knew this home had a history worth preserving. The previous family had filled it with love, laughter, and years of memories, so in a truly special tribute, they incorporated the existing dimpled glass panes from London—acquired by the previous owner for each of her children who grew up there. Now, every time the light filters through, it’s a reminder of the stories that came before.

Uncovering Hidden Treasure (Literally!)

The renovation uncovered some seriously cool original features. The two-way fireplace still boasts its original marble surround, and hidden behind the walls was exposed brick just waiting to be rediscovered. Now, this piece of history stands proudly at the center of the newly remodeled home—timeless, warm, and full of stories.

One of the biggest surprises? Beneath layers of old carpet, they discovered stunning original hardwood floors just waiting to shine again. A little refinishing (okay, maybe a lot) brought them back to life, proving that sometimes the best design choice is simply bringing out what was already there.

A Home Designed for Real Life

Let’s be real: gorgeous design is great, but a newly remodeled home should work for the people who live in it. That’s why the Collinses gave their space a major functionality upgrade:

  • Teen-friendly spaces – Everyone gets their own spot to chill, because, let’s face it, teenagers need space.
  • Dedicated office – Perfect for work, study, and Zoom calls that don’t have to happen at the kitchen table.
  • Cozy lounge area – A welcoming space for curling up with a book or catching up with friends.

An epic outdoor living area – Thanks to accordion glass doors, the inside and outside flow together effortlessly. Whether it’s hosting friends or just enjoying a quiet evening under the stars, this setup is chef’s kiss.

Little Details, Big Meaning

Ashley has always had a thing for birds, so they show up all over the house—in artwork, accents, and little touches that feel like a personal signature. And if you know your scripture, you’ll love this:

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” – Matthew 6:26

It’s a simple yet powerful reminder, woven right into the home’s design.

Also special to their hearts: Uganda. The cornerstone feature of Ashley’s office is African artwork, photos, and memories of their ministry work in Uganda and the children they’ve watched grow up.

Thoughtful Touches Everywhere

No detail was too small. The TVs? Framed like artwork, so they blend seamlessly into the design. The front door? A masterpiece. Crafted from burned wood using the traditional Shou Sugi Ban method, it’s both stunning and durable—a bold first impression that sets the tone for the whole house.

The Perfect Blend of Old and New

Brent and Ashley didn’t just renovate a house; they curated a home. It’s modern but warm, fresh but deeply rooted in its history. And most importantly, it’s theirs.

(And seriously, don’t miss the video of those beams being lifted in. It’s next-level amazing.)

So, what’s next? Probably just a whole lot of good times, great memories, and quiet moments spent soaking in the space they so carefully created. And honestly? That’s the best part.
