Plan your trip to Waco, Tx
Whether you are looking for things to do in Waco, Texas for couples or for the whole family, there is something for everyone!
We took a trip as a family of five in May of 2023. After visiting as a family, we also have a couples trip planned!
The Silos
Of course a visit to The Silos and the Magnolia empire created by Chip and Joanna Gaines is a must do regardless of who you are traveling with.
For a couple, grab breakfast or brunch at Magnolia Press then shop around at Magnolia Market, Magnolia Home and The Shops at the Silos.
Here are a few of our favorite finds while shopping:
For the kids, playing wiffle ball on the field at the Silos and sampling the sweet treats at Silos Baking Company. The line is long here, so we grabbed the half dozen cupcake sampler at one of the food trucks and it was much quicker and just as delicious! The Cookies N’ Cream Cupcake was our favorite!
If you are still needing more sweet treats for the kids, walk across the railroad tracks to visit Hey Sugar Candy Store and grab an ice cream cone or an assortment of just about any kind of candy you can imagine!
If you are there to shop, be sure to check out The Findery– just a few blocks away from The Silos- for great furniture and clothing finds, and Jimmy Don’’s sign shop just across the street from the Silos.
Couple Musts
For couples, Privovar’’s Spa is a must do- (Check out our previous post on the Beer Spa) where you can share a spa room and order flights of beer and or wine while you enjoy the relaxing treatment. It is also a great place to stay and a great spot for a couples meal. We enjoyed the Ancient Grains Salad with Salmon and the Pivovar Burger. Both were excellent!
Couples will also enjoy a stroll or run along the Waco Riverwalk which is very nicely done with over seven miles of multi-use, lighted trails that loop around both banks of the Brazos River.
For Kids
Going as a family for a meal at Privovar is also enjoyable. Based on their Czech history, the kids can color scenes from Prague while you enjoy the food and atmosphere.
And kids will love a visit to see the Baylor Bear. When the weather is warm, a trip to Hawaiian Falls Water Park is a hit. Even on Memorial Day Weekend when we went, the park wasn’t crowded. Families may also like a trip to the Dr. Pepper Museum or the Mayborn Muesum located on the Baylor University campus which encourages hands on learning. Another kid friendly option is spending the day at the Cameron Park Zoo which features a 52 acre natural habitat zoo as well as family movie nights!
Where to Stay
There are a variety of vacation rentals and hotels in Waco. Of course, everyone is buzzing about The Hotel 1928– Chip and Joanna Gaines’ newest Fixer Upper. This wasn’t open yet when we went, but I’m sure it won’t disappoint based on watching the show.
There are some nice condos to consider. We loved staying in a unit at Behren’s Lofts. The unit had a great kitchen, comfortable beds and plenty of nice touches that highlight the local area including Magnolia Table Cookbooks and Baylor Bear tailgating accessories. There are other options in this same building. The building is within a very short walk to the Silos and other great restaurants and also has a fitness center you can access during your stay.
If you stay in or close to this building, be sure to check out Fabled Book Shop. Its welcoming atmosphere, modern decor, coffee and wine bar, and a room dedicated to children’s books has something for everyone. I walked away with four or five great books I feel sure I wouldn’t have found at a chain bookstore.
Regardless of who you go with and how long or where you plan to stay, there is plenty to do for everyone in Waco, TX!
Love the article. It makes me want to pack my bags and head that way In the Spring.
