Toronto surprised us—in the best way. Coming straight from New York City, we weren’t sure what to expect, but what we found was a vibrant, family-friendly city that somehow feels both big and approachable. It’s home to over three million people, yet it felt incredibly clean, safe, and easy to explore on foot—even in the cold (which, yes, was very real!).
But the real highlights? Straight from the kids themselves.
Sam’s Pick: Snow Tubing Fun
If you ask Sam, Toronto is all about snow tubing. There’s something about flying down a snowy hill that instantly becomes the highlight of a winter trip. It’s the kind of activity that burns energy, brings nonstop laughs, and makes you forget about freezing fingers for just long enough to go again. We thought we might not ever get him off the hill
Andrew’s Pick: Games and Collectibles Near the CNN Tower
The arcade there did not disappoint and it is conveniently located close to the CNN Tower and the Blue Jays stadium where there are multiple family friendly options to enjoy.
Always hunting for the best card shop everywhere we go, he discovered Relikks Cards and Collectibles just a short car ride away from where we stayed. It was a good place to spend an hour or two especially when you need a break from the cold.
Paige’s Favorites: Snow + Spa Day
Paige agreed—snow tubing was a must. But her birthday twist made the trip extra special: a pedicure in the city. It was the perfect balance of outdoor adventure and a little pampering, and a reminder that even on a family trip, there’s room for celebrating in style.
Mom & Dad’s Favorites: Food, History, and Wandering
For us, Toronto delivered in all the ways we love most—walkable neighborhoods, great food, and a sense of place.
- St. Lawrence Market was a standout. It’s the kind of place where you can graze your way through lunch, discovering local flavors along the way. Drew sampled the famous pea meal sandwich and Paige loved a crepe with nutella reminiscent of her Paris trip.
- The Distillery District quickly became another favorite, with its historic charm, pedestrian-only streets, and plenty of spots for a great meal. We enjoyed our meal at Mill Street Brewery where there was something on the menu for everyone.
Both areas made it easy to slow down, explore, and just enjoy being in the city.
Worth The Trip: Niagara Falls
If you’re visiting Toronto, it’s absolutely worth taking the short trip—just over an hour—to Niagara Falls. Seeing the falls from the Canadian side is unforgettable, and the surrounding town is full of classic, slightly kitschy tourist fun: shops, attractions, and plenty to keep kids entertained.
Toronto felt like a city that works for everyone. The kids found adventure and fun around every corner, and we found great food, beautiful neighborhoods, and a sense of ease you don’t always get in a major city.
Clean, safe, full of things to do—and yes, very cold—but absolutely worth it.
We’ll be back.
