Our upstairs hall bathroom will be the first thing we will overall Building at the Beach. With an inpatient almost-teenager waiting for her glam bathroom and the ability to completely renovate this space before major renovations begin, we’ve started creating the vision and sourcing products for this bath.
We’ve completely gutted and reconfigured bathrooms before, but the goal here is a little different- make it feel luxurious with a coastal modern vibe without changing the footprint or plumbing in order to keep costs low.
Before
The current space has and outdated wood vanity with doors coming off the hinges and a beige top that is not natural stone. A cream drop in tub and shower combo is surrounded by darker walls and light fixtures- or the lack of them!- that have had a moment that is long gone. The outdated floor tile is loose.
But looking at the before photo, we can also see the possibility. The footprint works. It just needs at lot of love.

The Vision
- Coastal blue tile setting the tone in the shower/tub combo
- Glass shower doors, making the space feel bigger and showing off the tile
- Warm brass as “jewelry”
- Natural wood vanity with storage space
- Updated lighting and paint to add a soft touch
- Since the square footage is minimial, splurging a little on floor tile in a basketweave or mosaic pattern
