Moving doesn’t always mean leaving behind the community you love. For Heather and Robbie Loyd, their recent move was about finding more space while staying rooted in their favorite neighborhood.
With two children, Harper (12) and Robert (8), the Loyds realized they were outgrowing their previous home just down the street. They needed a larger kitchen and more room to entertain friends. While they briefly considered building, their hearts were set on staying in Point Mallard for its schools and the social, golf-cart-friendly lifestyle they enjoy with their friends.
The Vision
Despite limited options, Heather spotted a house on Zillow that, while extremely dated, offered the perfect “bones”. After spending two hours at an open house visualizing the potential, she convinced Robbie to take a look. They moved fast, closing on the approximately 4,500-square-foot home in just three weeks.

Transforming the Space
The home, featuring four bedrooms and five full baths, underwent a massive transformation over 16 months:
- Interior Overhaul (8 Months): Demolition started in March immediately after closing. The family remained in their old home until the interior was ready for move-in that October.
- Exterior Evolution (8 Months): Once they moved in, they tackled the outdoor space, adding a pool, pavilion, and entirely new landscaping.
The project wrapped up the following June, proving that with a clear vision, you can gut a dated house and turn it into exactly what fits your family’s needs.
