Luxury Bathroom Renovation Before and After: From Carpeted Tub to Spa Retreat

Home » Luxury Bathroom Renovation Before and After: From Carpeted Tub to Spa Retreat

Thinking about a bathroom renovation? There’s something deeply nostalgic about a 1990s bathroom- that really needs to be renovated- and what it can inspire! The oversized garden tub planted squarely in the middle of the room. Carpet underfoot. Tiny shower tucked into a corner as an afterthought. Layers of beige. And somehow, despite all the square footage, none of it really functioned the way you wanted it to.

This bathroom had all of that — and all the potential.

Before

The original layout centered around a massive built-in tub surrounded by carpet (yes, carpet), low ceilings that made the room feel darker and smaller than it actually was, and a shower that felt cramped despite the generous footprint of the space. The goal wasn’t simply to renovate the bathroom. It was to completely rethink how the space could live.

After

The transformation began by opening everything up. The awkward layout gave way to a design that finally made sense — one centered around light, flow, and comfort. The oversized tub was replaced with a sculptural soaking tub that feels intentional instead of imposing. Positioned thoughtfully within the room, it now creates a quiet focal point rather than dominating every square foot.

On either side sat his-and-her walk-in closets that were a positive function in the layout of the space. With some custom design around the homeowners needs, the closets now function as they should.

A spacious walk-in shower replaced the tiny enclosed version, bringing a spa-like quality to the everyday routine. Clean lines, beautiful tilework, and thoughtfully selected fixtures elevated the entire experience. Every detail feels layered but effortless.

The dual vanity added both symmetry and function, giving the homeowners a space that feels luxurious without being overly formal. Warm finishes and refined materials soften the room, while natural light floods in and completely changes the atmosphere. What once felt dark and dated now feels airy, calm, and timeless.

There was already an enclosed toilet room that was maintained.

And perhaps the biggest shift of all? The room finally feels connected to itself. Instead of fragmented spaces competing for attention, every element now works together.

This renovation is proof that sometimes the best spaces aren’t created by adding more — they come from editing thoughtfully, honoring how a home should feel, and allowing beauty and function to exist equally.

From carpeted 90s excess to serene modern retreat, this bathroom became exactly what it always had the potential to be.
